About the Trustees

The strategic direction of the Macedon Cemetery is overseen by a Board of appointed Trust members.

DUNCAN BEATSON has been a Member of the Trust for 41 years and Chairman for the last 23 years. Duncan’s community service includes 50 years as a Member and Chairman of the Macedon Country Fire Authority; a Member of the Macedon Water Trust for 20 years; a Member of the Macedon Primary School Council for 19 years; President of the Macedon Primary School Plantation Committee for 15 years; Chairman of the John D. Clifford Reserve Committee of Management for 15 years;  Life Member and President of the Mt. Macedon Golf Club for 3 years and President of the Macedon Football Club for 3 years being also the Club’s trainer for 16 years.

HARRY HILL has been Vice Chairman of the Trust for 10 years following in the footsteps of his father John [Jack] Walter Hill who was previously the Chairman for 20 years. Harry is a life member and former Secretary of the Macedon Country Fire Authority with 30 years service to that organisation and a Member and Chairman of the Jubilee Hall Committee for 15 years.

C. ALAN HORE is a Life Member of the Trust with 35 years service, an engineer and surveyor who re-created the plans of the cemetery in 1985 after the original 1861 plans were destroyed in the Ash Wednesday bushfires.

RONALD ROWLEY has been a member of the Trust for 9 years and is also a Director of Stoneman’s Holdings.

NORMAN HUGHES has been a member of the Trust for 3 years and also the Vice President of the Macedon Ranges Bowls Club for the last 6 years. Norm was a member of the Macedon Country Fire Authority for 20 years; a Life Member of the Gisborne Apex Club; a Member of the Macedon Football and Cricket Clubs and the Captain of the Kyneton Golf Club for 2 years.

MARGARET BURNS has been a member of the Trust and the Board’s Secretary for the last 15 years after 30 years service with the Forests Commission, Department of Natural Resources and Environment and Parks Victoria.  Margaret is the author of the book about the cemetery In the Shadow of the Mountain and co-author of Grand Gardens of Mount Macedon and The Old and the New – The Story of the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross and From Little Seeds, A History of The Macedon State Nursery.

The Macedon Cemetery Trust is a member of the Cemeteries and Crematoria Association of Victoria along with many Trusts in the Macedon Ranges.  In 2013 Macedon  hosted the first CCAV country meeting for over 50 members in the Jubilee Hall, and in 2014 will host a Grave Safe workshop and a 2 day Funeral Safety Course.
